Australian Aboriginal spear head

Australian Aboriginal spear head

SKU: W031

Australian Aboriginal spear head

Origin: Said to be from Central Queensland.

Materials and method: Hand carved hardwood, possibly stone carved; some bonding resin (from Spinifex?) remains evident at base.

Dimensions: approximately 53 L x 1-3.5 W cm.

Date of creation: Very likely 19th century

Condition: Excellent, patina consistent with substantial age.

Provenance: From a private Adelaide collection.

Stock no: W031

Comments: This spear head would have been bound to a long spear shaft – some of the resin used in the join is still evident. Examples of similar design can be seen in the Australian Museum in Sydney.
