Chinese bronze censer or incense burner
Description: Incense burner in the form of a small square shrine tapering to an apex with ovoid rotating handle at top; main opening resembling an arabesque style window; small group of perforations make smoke vents on three sides; each side has decoration panels using designs that appear to be based on the taotie motif - stylised versions of mythological creatures that often appear on ritual bronzes vessels from the Shang and Zhou dynasties.
Origin: China.
Materials and method: Cast bronze, patinated.
Dimensions: 21 cm H; 12 cm W; the bronze is about 2-3 mm thick.
Date of creation: Probably from the first half of the 20th century.
