Chinese brush pot decorated with a fiery dragon in clouds

 

Material: Bamboo

 

Origin: China. On the bottom there is the remains of an old metallic adhesive “Made in China” label. See the image.

 

Age: Probably 1960’s

 

Dimensions: 15.5 x 9 cm

 

Condition: Excellent with a lovely toning.

 

Provenance: From an Australian collection of Asian artefacts that was formed in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Comments: Brush pots were used for Chinese calligraphy to hold clean brushes upright and are one of the items from “the scholar’s table”, along with water droppers, ink stones, etc. The “Made in China” label on this piece suggests it was made for foreign buyers. It was probably purchased in Hong Kong.
