Japanese futon cover (now as wall hanging)
Description: in the centre is a family crest of a butterfly surrounded by a traditional combination of auspicious motifs (Syou-chiku-bai): pine tree, bamboo and plum blossom. Ex the famous Sasakura collection, numbered on the back (listed in his inventory).
Material: hand loomed cotton and dyed with indigo using resist dyeing technique (tsutsugaki)
Dimensions: 131 x 163 cm
Age: Probably late 19th century
Condition: has been professionally washed and repaired (areas of repair are evident in the photos) and reinforced on both the back and the borders with new cotton; ready to be hung on the wall.
